Do you think with cannabis and other stuff like that, we might see it come up as an amendment to bigger pieces of legislation?

TRANSCRIPT: Sen. Ruben Gallego

SCENE: As Sen. Ruben Gallego’s rushing through the basement of the US Capitol on his way to a Senate vote, Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo briefly catches him on the SAFER Banking Act before he hops an elevator up to the Senate floor.

Matt Laslo: “Hey.”

Ruben Gallego: “What’s up? Boring day.”

ML: “You haven’t heard any chatter of SAFER Banking Act over here?”

RG: “I have not.”

ML: “It feels like Republicans don’t want to…”

Sen. Chris Van Hollen skirts past Laslo as he makes his way to vote.

ML: “Pardon me sir…”

ML: “It feels like Republicans just don’t want even to say the C-word — ‘cannabis’ this Congress?”

RG: “Yeah. I’ve not heard anything at all. But obviously it’d be good — it’s good to get it going.”

ML: “Yeah? Do you think with some stuff like that, we might see it as an amendment to other bills?”

RG: “I could absolutely see that.”

Senate attendant: “Here senators. Right here.”

ML: “Yeah?”

Gallego hops onto the awaiting elevator.

ML: “Thank you.”

What should we ask Congress next?
